Dribble artist Ousmane Dembélé has tried to justify his strike at Borussia Dortmund last summer. Not least thanks to his refusal to work, the Frenchman moved to FC Barcelona for 105 million euros.
When BVB turned down Barcelona’s first offer, the disaster took its course: Ousmane Dembélé went on strike. There was trouble with the team of Borussia and the suspension by the club. But finally Dembélé got his way. The Frenchman moved to Spain.
But the reasons for the transfer hiccups are much further behind, the 19-year-old explained. Already in his time at Stade Rennes he had contact with BVB and Barca. “What I liked about Dortmund was that they were interested in me very early, far ahead of everyone else,” Dembélé revealed to the magazine “Onz Mondial”. “I immediately pledged without thinking because I knew I would play when I’m good.”
“… then I will come”
That was the change to Borussia Dortmund decided thing. Only the contract was not signed at this time. Other clubs also asked. “I talked to three clubs: Dortmund, Liverpool and Barcelona.”
The request Barcas came too late, but obviously impressed offensive star Dembélé so much that he made an agreement with the responsible. “I said, ‘Next season, it’s not possible, but next time you call me, I’ll come.’ And that happened. ”
Consequently, Dembélé had already made a personal deal with FC Barcelona when he moved to Dortmund. Even during his time in the Ruhr Valley, he had always kept in touch with those responsible in Barcelona: “I have often received news from Barca, among others, the sports director.”
Dembélé justifies his strike
Only a year later, Barcelona asked BVB. But Hans-Joachim Watzke and Michael Zorc rejected a first offer. “I felt like I was missing out on my dream, that’s why I behaved like that, I’m absolutely in favor of it,” Dembélé said in his subsequent strike. “What should I have done, should I cancel Barcelona a second time? That was impossible for me.”
For his former critics, the international has no understanding: “I would have liked to see how all those people who have criticized me would have reacted if they had been in my place.” Among the Catalans, the winger has signed a contract until 2022.
